100 years of modern history, our legacy as Romanians & an invite to WordCamp

The theme for WordCamp Bucharest 2018 is….drum-roll!

As many of you might have guessed by now, this year’s WordCamp Bucharest theme is all about tradition & more specifically our own flavor of it. We titled this year’s WordCamp Bucharest: Legacy & Innovation.

For us, legacy is inspiration. It helps us advance, move forward and never give up.
If you take a look at this list  of Romanian inventors and their amazing work you will see a lot of focus on engineering, medicine, mathematics and many more. We’ll let you study the list at your own convenience, but we’re sure that you’ll be able to find out something new and interesting!

Romania: 100 years of history, and the legacy beyond that

In 2018 Romania is celebrating the Great Union Centennial. 100 years since the Great Union which unified the country following the dreams of our ancestors. Different areas of our country were organized as smaller states under different empires’ rule but felt united for being part of the same heritage. After centuries of trying and fighting to unite our people, the year 1918 was the moment in time when all Romanians were able to unite and create a modern state for ourselves known as Romania.

History is built by all the people that lived on this land, and that helped build the country. People who didn’t give up when the first dreams of Union were dismissed. The Romanians kept fighting for their wish until they made it happen. Beyond the story of Dracula, the great mountains, the beautiful road of Trans-Fagarasan, the homemade drinks, the love and the attention you receive around, beyond all of this are people that continue to build history.

Now, coming back to the realm of WordCamp. If you were patient enough to go through the list of Romanian inventors, you may have read about Justin Capră. He is an engineer and inventor, and the believed inventor of the Jetpack. The Jetpack he invented propels you onward and upward, just like the Jetpack Plugin, one of our WordCamp sponsors for this year. 😉

WordPress in Romania

WordPress is by far the most popular platform used online (30% of the entire INTERNET) with more than 20 million sites published worldwide and close to 200 thousand sites using it in Romania, that represents 20% of all sites registered as .ro on our local TLD (top level domain registrar). We also have a really great community around WordPress with over 1000 members in our local WordPress meetup and two successful editions of WordCamp Bucharest so far.

This being said we are really excited for WordCamp Bucharest 2018 happening this October.

See you there!
